Get Involved – Volunteering Opportunities

Office Administration Volunteer

Do you have some skills working or helping in an office? Do you want to gain these skills? Do you have some extra time and want to give back to the community? Meet new people and develop new skills by assisting us in our office. We are looking for people to assist in the following ways:

  • Assist Coordinator with basic office administration, this may include some reception duties, answering phone, returning calls, taking square payments, using computer to assist with term program and newsletter.

  • Assisting with paperwork filing under supervision of Coordinator

English Conversation Club Volunteer

Last year we successfully piloted an English Conversation Club for speakers of English as another language. This club is facilitated by volunteers, who on a roster system, meet weekly on Wednesday’s 11.00am – 12.00pm during each term.

Volunteers do not need teaching experience, and work in pairs or more to discuss different subjects.

Volunteers would be expected to hold a current Working with Children Check (free for volunteers)

We will be holding a morning tea/information session on Wednesday 31 Jan 11am. Contact us if you are interested in attending.

Community Kitchen Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to set up and run a Community Kitchen. These volunteers will be supported to set up and oversee the program. This could be done monthly, fortnightly or weekly with people in the community. Community members could be living with a disability or socially isolated.

Community Kitchen team leader volunteers would:

  • Assist the group to plan, prepare and cook meals together

  • Shop for ingredients for planned meals

  • Oversee sessions to ensure it runs smoothly

From time to time, Geelong West Neighbourhood House runs events that need support from volunteers. This could be anything from our Positive Ageing Event, Christmas Party, AGM, Community events such as Winter Solstice and Pako Festa and others as they arise.

Each event will have a specific list of jobs to be completed. The following is a general list

  • Assist with set up/pack up

  • Assist with serving of refreshments

  • Assist with cleaning of hall during and after events

  • Help with marshalling at different areas the outside event is held where required.
