A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Winter Solstice 2026! It was amazing to see so many families, friends and neighbours out enjoying the evening, making lanterns, sharing food, listening to music and celebrating the end of the darkest days together.
The weather held out beautifully, then right as the lantern parade reached its finale, we all celebrated in the rain. A little bit magic, really.
First, the biggest thank you to our volunteers. It takes so many hands to create a night like this, including months of planning, preparation, setting up, welcoming people, helping with activities, packing down and everything in between. You are the heart of this event, and we simply couldn’t do it without you.
A big thank you to our generous sponsors, City of Greater Geelong and Jellis Craig Geelong, for helping make this free community celebration possible.
A special thank you to Waste Free Events for helping us make this a low waste event, including coordinating and running the dishwashing station throughout the evening. Thank you also to Natural Supply Co for generously supplying the dishwashing products that helped make it all possible.
Always a big thanks to Cal from Geelong Sound, who has been bringing the sound magic for us over many years, flowing with all that gets chucked his way with ease.

Big appreciation to our extraordinary marketer, Hannah Miller, always moving around our changing needs with grace and poise. And to our GWNH Manager, Jonathan Chee, for his amazing ability to connect in and meaningfully engage with our community.
And finally, a massive thank you to the inimitable Mia Devani, our Event Manager extraordinaire for creating the vision for the whole event, dazzling on stage and for the huge heart to bring so many wonderful people together.
Seeing West Park glowing with lanterns, music, laughter and community spirit was something really special. Events like this don’t happen without a community that shows up, joins in and helps create the magic.
Thank you, Geelong West! And if the night left you wanting more community, connection and creativity, come and check out Geelong West Neighbourhood House. We have classes, workshops, playgroups, community programs, sustainability initiatives and plenty of friendly faces waiting to welcome you 😊
